It may seem odd to start this list of superfoods with one you’ve likely never even heard of,
According to SOME PEOPLE…..
“studies have shown that this little berry is one of the most nutritious and powerful foods in the world! Açaí (ah-sigh-ee) is the high-energy berry of a special Amazon palm tree”.
If you want to dramatically decrease your risk of cancer, heart disease and diabetes, control your weight with no hunger pangs and reduce the visible signs of aging like wrinkles and sagging skin, I recommend that you “go nuts.” Here’s how:
When thoughts turn to food between meals, enjoy a handful of raw, unsalted nuts. They’re extremely filling and satisfying—and healthful.
Add some nuts to regular meals—a tablespoon of chopped almonds on your oatmeal, a tablespoon of walnuts in your lunchtime salad or a hazelnut-encrusted grilled salmon fillet. Nuts are so versatile they can take the place of flour and breadcrumbs—with a lot more flavor and health benefits. Just remember, as with all things, to use moderation.
Since many people are very conscious about the look of their body, many are looking for ways to keep fit and slim. For those who are lucky enough like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie where they have sufficient funds to go to the gym and other facilities or to have their bodies done thru medical procedures, it is certainly very easy to get a nice looking body.
But for the regular John Doe, it can be very difficult to spend the money required for membership in a gym or to buy slimming medicines.
If you are one of those regular citizens who don’t have enough money to even consult a personal trainer, then don’t be too sad or depressed since there are simple ways to be healthy and slim.
Yes, you don’t even have to go to the gym. All you have to do is act as normal as possible to be healthy. Take a peek as the list below – you will see there are lots of ways to be healthy that do not cost anything at all. Read the rest of this entry
“It’s an exciting finding because so often people say, ‘Oh, it’s all in my genes, what can I do?’ Well, it turns out you may be able to do a lot,”
Said Dr. Dean Ornish, head of Preventive Medicine Research Institute.
Our bodies are comprised of thousands of strands of DNA, which are responsible for who we are physically, mentally, and emotionally. Certain traits that we possess have been passed down from our parents through genetics such as eye color, disposition, and body type. Genetics are also responsible however, for transferring a number of unhealthy traits to our children including heart disease and cancer and thus arises a question: can a healthy lifestyle change our genetic system? According to a new study performed by U.S. researchers, a healthier diet and more exercise can lead to dramatic changes at a genetic level. Read the rest of this entry

NEW YORK () – More than half of Americans will have diabetes or be prediabetic by 2020 at a cost to the U.S. health care system of $3.35 trillion if current trends go on unabated, according to analysis of a new report released on Tuesday by health insurer UnitedHealth Group Inc.
Diabetes and prediabetes will account for an estimated 10 percent of total health care spending by the end of the decade at an annual cost of almost $500 billion — up from an estimated $194 billion this year, according to the report titled “The United States of Diabetes: Challenges and Opportunities in the Decade Ahead.”
A competitor prepares to go in front of judges at a casting call for the second season of the reality television programme ”Dance Your Ass Off”, during which overweight or obese contestants hope to lose weight by dancing, in New York December 18, 2009.
My girlfriend is obsessed with The Biggest Loser. No, I’m not referring to myself! I’m referring to the very popular television show in which people compete to lose as much weight as possible, as quickly as they can. I don’t think that she has missed a single episode. She loves to see the dramatic weight loss progress that the contestants make each week. She is so passionate about the show, she convinced me to watch it with her each week. I must admit, the show is quite entertaining and I do enjoy watching it with her.
But, from a weight loss standpoint, I’m not impressed. The goal of the show is to lose weight as fast as possible. In order to do this, the contestants engage in very extreme programs that are designed to cause rapid reductions in bodyweight. Rapid weight loss is great, right? Not so fast! This is not necessarily the case. Here’s why: Read the rest of this entry
Study Suggests That Despite Claims by Big Chains to Fight Childhood Obesity, They’re Doing the Opposite
By Ben Tracy
(CBS) In a perfect world, American families would gather each night for a healthy, home-cooked meal. For many, dinner means fast food. Three years ago, the big chains promised to fight childhood obesity. A report out Monday suggests they’ve done the opposite.
The report is the most comprehensive study ever into fast food nutrition and marketing. It shows that out of more than 3,000 possible kids’ meal combinations at the major chains, only 12 meet nutritional guidelines for pre-schoolers. Read the rest of this entry

A Reprint from the McDougall Newsletter – October 2005
This time of year, the Thanksgiving and Christmas Holidays frighten many people who eat a healthy diet. They wonder how to socialize with friends and how to prepare a meal in their home. These two days are supposed to be the largest feasts of the year. Yet in fact, both dinners are the healthiest, most vegetarian-like, most McDougall-like meals people eat all year long. Traditionally, these holiday dinners consist of mashed white potatoes, roasted sweet potatoes, a bread stuffing, butternut and acorn squash, cranberries, and a variety of green vegetables, including Brussels sprouts, carrots, cauliflower, and green beans. For dessert, pumpkin pie ends the feast. That’s a cornucopia of starches and vegetables. The turkey served is the leanest of all common meats. The truth is that every other dinner consumed by Westerners all year long is far richer in fat, cholesterol, salt and sugar than is eaten at these two traditional festivals. Therefore, if you are a healthy eater you will find Thanksgiving and Christmas the two most comfortable times of the year to socialize with all of your family and friends. I have laid out the menu, shopping list, and time schedule so that you will be able to more easily prepare a successful meal. The starred (*) items are ones I suggest for a basic meal plan, and then add as many more dishes as you feel your Thanksgiving dinner needs to fit your celebration. Read the rest of this entry
